Why am I suddenly seeing mezcal cocktails
everywhere?
Find out at the Craft Cocktail Cabal
TOMORROW!

If you’ve been to any high-end Mexican restaurants lately, you probably noticed that half of their cocktail menu is made with mezcal. In fact, trendy restaurants and bars have enthusiastically jumped on the mezcal bandwagon. But what exactly is mezcal, and how’s it different from tequila? Why has it become so popular? Come to this CCC event and find out!

Marin IJ’s “Barfly” columnist and author of “Twenty Years Behind Bars,” Jeff Burkhart is bringing some very collectable bottles of mezcal and will use them to craft three iconic mezcal cocktails.
Oaxacan Negroni
¾ ounce mezcal
¾ ounce Campari
¾ ounce Carpano sweet vermouth
1 orange zest
Combine all three ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and stir. Strain into a serving glass with a large format ice cube. Garnish with orange zest.
Smoky Word
1 ½ ounce mezcal
¾ ounce Maraschino liqueur
1 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice
Float of Green Chartreuse
Lime wheel
Combine first three ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until cold. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, float lime wheel on top and splash chartreuse onto it.
Smoking Corpse
1 ½ ounces mezcal
¾ ounce Cointreau
1 ounce fresh squeezed Meyer lemon juice
1 dash orange bitters
Float of absinthe
Lemon wheel
Combine first four ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until cold. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, float lemon wheel on top and splash absinthe onto it.
