About the Class:

Modern dance is an expressive form of dance in which we explore the movement of the body and the expression of emotion through dance and the elements around us.

In this class, we will discover the abilities of your body through the practice of modern dance. Starting with warm up exercises and stretches, we will work on dance movement, improvisation exercises and technique, as well as learning a short choreography. At the end of the class, we will use cool down exercises and body-mind centering practices.

The environment of dance can be sometimes competitive, and push the limits of the body. In this class, I promote self empowerment, positive body image and practice. I reinforce well-being and social connection skills.

Students will have a chance to build core strength, flexibility and grounding in a fun and safe environment. They are encouraged to develop their own creativity and their own story.

About Marie:

I am a versatile artist from France and have been living in the US (California) for the past 12 years.

My style is to mix all my knowledge between dance, acting, yoga, somatic technique, intuitive movement, breath exercises and voice training to develop a chance to restore a healthy connection between mind and body.

I have always been passionate about the different forms of representations on stage, the training of the performers and the art of the movement. I don't belong to one discipline as I like to construct bridges between dance, theater and yoga.

I started dance training at a young age, practiced music, gymnastics and dance through my childhood, and found my passion in traditional African dance while traveling to North Africa as a young adult.

I studied Performing Arts at Nice University and spent 3 years in an intensive acting training program at a french national conservatory in Cannes. I worked with numerous directors, choreographers, circus performers, and have toured in professional companies in France. Through this experience I have built an original knowledge and artisanal savoir-faire of a multi disciplinary performer.

For the past 10 years, I have worked extensively with students of the Bay Area. I have worked in over a dozen schools and organizations and trained hundreds of students in my original technique. I have deep experience managing summer camps, teaching dance and theater classes and workshops in schools from elementary through high school, developed original choreography, and produced and directed multiple dance theater performances.

Hope you can join the fun!
